Movie Review: Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Silver Linings Playbook is such a crowd-pleaser that I'm going out on a limb to say that this film is this generation's Jerry Maguire.

Starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, the film won the People's Choice Award at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival a few months ago, I could understand why: the story is as "feel good" as films come, the chemistry between the two leads is irresistible, and the characters are very relatable that even a bookie hot-head (played by Robert De Niro) is someone I ended up rooting for.

Plus, there's the element of a nice interweaving of sports and romance, a combo effectively used by the now classic Jerry Maguire. In fact, "Playbook" takes a page from the Tom Cruise-Renée Zellweger rom-com by pitting two clearly flawed characters together and just letting the sparks fly.

Silver Linings Playbookmakes the right moves in creating a movie people will like and feel good about. And that makes a winning play, any day.
