Movie Review: Men In Black 3 (2012)

Men In Black 3 to me is a head-scratcher. I saw how the franchise lost a lot of its freshness in the Men in Black 2, so why come up with an attempt to get the black suits and sunglasses out of the shelves?

The focal point in jump-starting the Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) is time travel, with Agent J going back to 1969 to stop the intergalactic villain named Boris The Animal (Jemaine Clement) and prevent a massive shift in human history. For me, this is a great source of jokes and comic situations (a la Austin Powers), but it seems the film fumbled it.

I'm not saying the film is outwardly bad, it's just that it never rises to a certain level that the first movie set. Josh Brolin as a young Agent K is terrific and Will Smith is still the charismatic screen presence, but they're not enough to carry the film.

Men In Black 3 could be a fun film for some, but the franchise has lost its legs. I say it's one fo the franchises in need of a reboot.
