Movie Review: Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (2012)

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted didn't reveal much its plot prior to its release, but after the film, it was a  pleasant surprise.

While it looked liked a caper film, the story revolves around the zoo animals Alex (Ben Stiller), Marty (Chris Rock), Melman (David Schwimmer), and Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) joining a circus to get back to New York. Hot on their hooves is animal control Capt. Chantel Dubois (Frances McDormand), who is more interested in making Alex a trophy in her wall than saving the public.

The film is funny, with lots of physical comedy kids will like. The music blends well with the over-all plot and unforced (there is a song number though that pokes fun at the French), with the best musical part happening in the circus. I didn't catch the movie in 3D, but the animation in the 2D version was flat and the rendering of the European landmarks was very detailed.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted proves that the Madagascar franchise may be one of Dreamworks' few aces up its sleeve. I highly recommend it for the family.
