Movie Review: The Ides of March (2011)

George Clooney stars and directs a very smart political drama in The Ides of March.

Stephen Meyers (Ryan Gosling) is an idealistic campaign manager working with Democrat presidential aspirant Gov. Mike Morris (Clooney). When Stephen gets torn between party lines and personal scandals, he is faced with the prospects of throwing his ideals out the window and playing the dirty political game. Will he sink to the depths he had avoided or will he push his career to new heights?

The film is well acted and strong performances by Clooney, Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, and Evan Rachel Wood make the story very watchable, despite the heavy dose of American politics and election intrigue. Folks with little knowledge of the US primary process may get lost a bit.

The Ides of March is one of the best political dramas of the year and it doesn't hurt that fan faves George Clooney and Ryan Gosling are there.
