Movie Review: Green Lantern (2011)

In Green Lantern, there's a scene where Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) punches three men in one blow, thanks to his "Will Energy" fist. I felt like I was one of those poor joes after watching the movie.

The problem with Green Lantern is that it lacks the emotional and intellectual (and even humor) depth of recent superhero movies. I found it hard to root for Hal Jordan, buy into the Green Lantern Corps's mission, and be impressed with energy race cars and guns. In other words, the film is far from super.

The saving grace of the film is the visuals, as the 3D lends itself well to the space scenes. Blake Lively will surely by liked by a lot of comic book fanboys and she and Reynolds look good together on-screen. If only the writers were able come up with something interesting material for those two...

The way I see it, the film further boosts the notion that Green Lantern is a second-rate superhero that uses his powers in silly ways. Yes, that includes that "Will Energy" fist.
