Marvel Studios did it again!
The movie-making arm of Marvel Entertainment was able to transform a B-list superhero into a hot property. First was Iron Man, now it's Thor.
Thor, as a film, is very satisfying pop-corn fare. The hero is Asgard's heir apparent who has a penchant for battles and let's his temper get the best of him. Once he is banished from his homeland to Earth, real fun begins. His Middle Ages-type of attitude gets him into funny and adventurous situations. This is really what makes the film tick if you ask me.
The movie also doesn't come off as campy even though the genre has a tendency to go towards that. I guess that's where the handiwork of director Kenneth Branagh comes in to play. The director's helming may have catapulted the careers of Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and the film to box-office success.
Thor is a very enjoyable summer flick that leverages on the eponymous hero to the max. It doesn't take it's audience as fools and a great addition to Marvel's film portfolio. Now, I'm really looking forward to The Avengers.
