Movie Review: Source Code (2011)

In the 1990's, there was a television show called Quantum Leap and it was about a well-meaning scientist who assumes the lives of people from the past and tries to change history-- the scientist makes it right for each person he becomes.

What does Quantum Leap have to with Source Code?

They are very much related. In Source Code we have Capt. Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) who assumes the last eight minutes of the life of a history teacher and tries to make it right for him. The main difference is that. Capt. Stevens has many chances to get it right, in a Groundhog Day-like loop.

Director Duncan Jones (of Moon fame) has blended great elements of sci-fi and the thriller genre and whipped it up with a great ending. And I think that's very hard to do, considering there's a lot of complexity in the concept of what the Source Code is. On a side note, finding out what the Source Code is was a joy in itself.

I hope Source Code is a sign that Hollywood is making a trend of making smart action-thrillers that are high on concept. Source Code is a "can't miss" film that delivers.
