Movie Review: Love and Other Drugs (2010)

Love and Other Drugs is a sexy and light drama about the realities of a modern relationship.

Jamie Randall (Jake Gyllenhall) is a Pfizer pharmaceutical representative who meets the relationship-phobic Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway) in a health facility and the two start off as friends with benefits. As Maggie struggles with a debilitating illness, Jamie helps her cope while his career goes skyrocketing with the help of Viagra. We see Jamie and Maggie's relationship blossom until the two are faced with a very serious challenge.

The movie had a very promising start, but it couldn't recover from a long and dull middle. And I think director Edward Zwick had no choice because we viewers have to see the mundane stuff that happens that eventually build-up to a mature relationship. Good thing Gyllenhall and Hathaway had affecting performances that helped things.

Love and Other Drugs is perfect for the twenty-something and thirty-something crowd who appreciates the nuances and intricacies of a real-world relationship.
