Jesse Eisenberg goes from Advertureland to Zombieland in a move that could put him in the Hollywood Jewish elite. But will a movie about gratuitous dismemberment and zombie violence be good enough?
I'll give Zombieland this: it's a unique film because it melds comedy and horror and does a good job at it. It combines the post-apocalyptic sensibilities of I Am Legend and humor of Dawn of the Dead, plus it's also a buddy/roadie movie where the main cast of Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin travel the zombie-infested USA.
My main beef with the film is that it abuses its license to kill zombies to the point that it gets tiring (Fine, a piano falling on a hapless zombie is fun, but the blazing shotguns are repetitive!). BTW, the zombies in the movie is very much similar to the ones in 28 Days Later/28 Weeks Later, except that they are dumber.
Is a trip to Zombieland worth your hard-earned money? If you're not a fan of geeky humor and excessive blood and gore, then take the scenic route and smell the roses.
