VSO Bahaginan and AD Group Promotions Philippines have launched the very first LEAP International Developmental Film Festival, a festival of documentary and documentary-fiction films that advocate human development and social change.
The festival was launched last September 1, 2009 at the Robinsons Galleria Movieworld and kicked off by the screening of two special feature films: "Panudlak," a documentary about two VSO volunteers in Cambodia by Ray Gibraltar, and "The RV Diaries," a film by Milo Alto Paz that follows the story of three volunteers who went home. These two films led the way for other documentaries that tackle Women's Empowerment, Children's Right, Human Rights, Eco-Preservation, Tribal Development, Preservation of the Culture and the Arts, Literacy, and Volunteerism.
People who would like to take a break from the normal commercial films will find the films in the festival refreshing-- the documentaries do take on serious themes, but based on what I've seen, they're pretty powerful.
The first leg of the film festival will run at the Robsinsons Movieworld the month of September. For screening schedules, you may visit the film festival website.
