Movie Review: The Hangover (2009)

Everyone who drinks alcohol know the unpleasant feeling of having a hangover-- it's usually a splitting headache with a sensation bordering on a sick feeling. But with the film The Hangover, you head will be splitting because of laughing.

Director Todd Phillips, who has probably perfected the quirky/raunchy buddy movie genre with Old School, Starsky & Hutch, and Road Trip, has a comic gem with this film about a group of friends who go to Las Vegas for a night of celebration and end up not remembering any thing they did in the evening. Add to the mix Mike Tyson (yes Mike Tyson!), a Chinese mobster, a stripper, and a baby, the film successfully puts things together for a clever funny ride.

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms (best known as Andy Bernard in The Office), Zach Galafianakis all have good performances as friends who don't have a clue to what they got into. The story is very hilarious but it had to wind down slow to put together the loose ends. But the film is definitely a solid guy movie.

I'd recommend The Hangover to buddies out for great rowdy laughs. Watch it after a bout of drinking beer, no hangover guaranteed.
