X-Men Origins: Wolverine Leaked!
Score another point for movie piracy as X-Men Origins: Wolverine was leaked online almost one month before its intended release.
Reports have said that an "incomplete and early version" of the film starring Hugh Jackman found its way into P2P sites and that the FBI is trying to find the original source of the leak. Film producer Fox said that the version that was leaked was still very rough-- it still had special effects missing and had temporary sound.
I'm a big fan of the X-Men film franchise (well, except the last X-Men film) and this is a big blow to the film. Online reviews have appeared and they have slammed the upcoming Wolverine film. I just hope that Fox will be able to turn the movie around with re-shoots and better special effects.
My crazy theory: There is the possibility that the leak came from Fox and they want to generate enough buzz to promote the film... much like a viral video. The film, prior to the leak, had not been in the radar of many fanboys. Let's see how this will unfold.

ReplyDeleteI am a movie fanatic and I love writing comments and reading one too about all types of movies..I could not help myself but smile after reading ur blog about this "Wolverine" leakage.. And I must confess that I've seen the clear copy myself with all the unfinished effects (the copy's all over Quiapo- our center for piracy)... I loved the film, gives me better understanding of the character of Wolverine and the name origin, as the title has very well revealed..and I would definitely be watchin this on the big screen not only for my self-satisfaction bu also to give justice to the moviemaker and the whole industry!!!
ReplyDeleteI saw the leaked version too and it was pretty funny to watch it with all the unfinished special effects. I first realized it wasn't the finished product on the first plane scene (you'll know what I am talking about soon enough). I was like "Hey Powerpoint!" and the sound fx were clearly temp. Anyway, it made me realize how a lot of these action (or adventure or sci-fi) movies really count heavily on the special effects to draw the crowds and good reviews. After watching the movie, I felt like I didn't really see anything worthwhile - there was hardly a storyline and with the missing finishing touches, it was a big yawn. I will definitely see the legit DVD version though just to see how it would it would like in it's final state.

ReplyDeleteGreat for you! :D
Let's support Wolverine!

ReplyDeleteYou just made Fox's worst nightmare happen: people who get turned off by the film due to the leaked version.
Let's see how the film will do in the box office & dvd sales.
The nature of the leaked version is known as a workprint.
ReplyDeleteHow the heck it leaked, I don't know.
I'm getting it only so I could try out some special effects on it myself (and add it to my collection). If you're not into video editing, or graphic animation or anything related, or a curious movie buff or collector, I don't know why you'd get it. Unless you were duped. If you were duped, well... such is the nature of businesses to do that to you. :') Come on po, why would you let workprints turn you off? :')
One of the things that turn me off with these comic book based movies are the inconsistencies and seeming disrespect for the original concept/material. Mostly are forgivable to me so far. :')
I found this blog on a Facebook ad. Good one, Regnard and thanks! ='D

ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment!
Are you saying Wolverine the movie deviated so much from the comic material?
Interesting...
Oh no I made that statement for the
ReplyDeleteother movies -- although I actually thought that in the upcoming/leaked movie, having Victor Creed/Dog Logan/Sabretooth as a brother instead of Logan/Wolverine's father was a huge departure from the original origin story, now I don't know. (Plus, now I'm wondering if the Victor Creed (Sabretooth) in comics and the Dog Logan (Sabretooth) in the movie is the same! I've never heard of a "Dog Logan" before...)
Frankly I like that I don't know that much about Wolverine yet before watching the movie, so I'd be more free of fanboy bias :')
So this time, instead of reading Wolverine comics ahead of the movie -- as I'm doing for Watchmen -- I'd watch it first.
(+I liked your review of the Watchmen. Got me excited :'p)

Here's something I found funny: "Roger Friedman, a writer for Fox News, actually watched the leak and reviewed it for his column. Then he was fired by Fox, unsurprisingly." Chelsea Doyle, "Preview for X-Men Origins: Wolverine" p.4 on Kiwibox

Thank you and welcome! =')
