Movie Review: High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008)

The third installment to the High School Musical franchise is the first one to hit be big screen but it sure knows what its audience wants and gives it to them in a nice, wholesome package.

The film may well be considered Zac Efron's vehicle to stardom-- he gets a lion's share of the movie's screen time as well as a great deal of the singing parts. While the film is considered an ensemble story for post-teen stars Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel and Corbin Bleu, Zac Efron simply steals the show, much to the delight of the pre-teen girls all over the world.

The music and dancing dominates the film that you'll think that story going on the movie is just a threat to connect the production numbers. The soundtrack is replete with ballads and love songs, but with a good dose of high energy numbers. There's no denying the entertainment value of the film, but at some point I felt I wanted a good break from the song and dances.

High School Musical 3 proves that the franchise has the legs to cross over from television into the movies, and I'm not doubtful that there will be a sequel to this movie.

Rating: 3/5
