The image above is a digital version of Mario V. Fernandez's "Hayop Ka" (You Animal). It will be seen by the general public soon, but it won't be displayed in your typical art gallery-- this great piece of art will be on display along Metro Manila's major thoroughfares as a billboard.
Yes, this artwork, along with 28 other paintings and photographs, will be on display as part of the Manila Outdoor Gallery Art Route, an initiative by 2nd Media, the Public Affairs arm of the Outdoor Advertising Association of the Philippines (OAAP). Filipino artists who are involved in this project include Popo San Pascual, Riel Hilario, Eddie Boy Escudero, Jose Terence Ruiz, Mario V. Fernandez, Gari Buenavista, MM Yu, Christina Quisumbing Ramilo, Lotsu Manes, and Tina Fernandez.
The Manila Outdoor Gallery Art Route is dubbed as the biggest outdoor art gallery in Asia and it focuses on an environmental awareness theme. The project is a nice way of bringing art to the masses who rarely have the time to visit museums and art galleries. Can you imagine riding the MRT and seeing a nice artwork?
