Movie Review: A Very Special Love

I caught A Very Special Love on a rainy evening last night and I found it a good movie for people in the mood for a light-hearted and feel-good romantic comedy.

The movie stars singer Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz, both of which showed great comfort in playing the "Secretary and The Boss Fall In Love" angle. Young people, especially professionals, will be able to relate to the story because it's set in a dynamic office environment and the role of Laida, the bubbly and oft-naive executive assistant, seemed to be tailor made for Sarah Geronimo to take advantage of her personality and inexperience in movie acting. Another point: 80's matinee idol Rowell Santiago played the role of the villain pretty good.

The movie does get overly mushy at times, and I found some entertainment in the audience reactions to "those" moments where sparks are flying between the two main characters. Be warned: Expect a lot of shrieking from young girls while watching the movie.

A Very Special Love is an above-average offering from Star Cinema and for maximum enjoyment, try watching this movie in the SM Cinemas on a weekend.
