Movie Review: Superbad

Is Superbad, well, bad? The answer is a resounding, curse-filled "No."

On the contrary, I think it's one of the funniest movies of the year, thanks to its taut dialogue, honesty and earnestness underneath the vulgarity. The movie moreover captures the contemporary male teener's take on porn on the internet, girls being drunk and how "true love" gets lost in the shuffle.

The story happens in one night-- best buddies Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) must obtain alcoholic drinks to make a graduation party they are attending their last chance to get with their objects of affection or lust, depending on your point of view. Director Greg Mottola really follows producer Judd Apatow start with The 40-year Old Virgin and Knocked Up, and coming up with a solid comedy classic of his own. The soundtrack also is very distinct, particularly in the first two-thirds of the movie.

Superbad is one of those movies your friends will talk about a week after watching it-- it's funny to know something "superbad" actually is supergood.

  1. Honestly, I believe that SuperBad wasn't that great. At most a 2.5|5 there were parts that made me laugh, and the acting was extremely good, the situations they were put in were also quite possible... but the characters themselfs, are just moronic, clueless, crass, rude, I just couldn't enjoy the movie seeing that it was about an asshole freind who drags around his "pal" because he himself is not good on his own, and the friend he drags down with him could have done so much more with his life. As for McLovin, he's cool, if the movie was all about him, I would have given Super Bad Two thumbs up! The acting was great, the characters themselfs just pissed me off too much.
