Movie Review: Stardust

Fantasy movies have taken the "epic" route with great commercial success in the last few years and Stardust is one movie takes a different path-- it does not have any ambition of being a grand epic, but an action-packed adventure-romance. Will this small-scale approach work?

I must commend the production value of Stardust. It is very well-crafted and uniquely imagined. Neil Gaiman's novel was brought to life by the movie's creative team in a very whimsical way. While the two lead characters (played by Charlie Cox and Claire Danes) were so-so in my opinion, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro's portayals of the main villain and main supporting character were very solid. The story is satisfyingly humorous and light in the right places, but I'm not so sure the younger audience will appreciate it completely.

Stardust is a good leisure movie that will take you in a fantastic journey, but as with most stories of this type, the trip's destination is a but predictable.

Rating: 2.5/5
