Movie Review: Blades of Glory

Blades of Glory is a movie I waited for since the moment I saw the hilarious trailer, but I was massively disappointed that it was shown here in Manila a few weeks before its video release. (Yes, it was that long a wait.)

The premise is simple, yet silly-- what happens when two rival male skaters compete in pairs competition? The jokes are going to have sexual undertones and you as a viewer will find it funny because you find the truth and pain on the situation. Will Ferrell and John Heder do admirable jobs in comically portraying the Fire and Ice duality of Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy.

Their first skating scene is funny indeed and it is good the movie builds up after that. I also liked TV favorites of mine on the big screen. Jenna Fischer (The Office) and Amy Poehler (Saturday Night Live) are mainstays of shows I love. Did I find any thing wrong with the movie? There were some gaps where it was just flat and the ending was just head-scratching.

Despite the weaknesses, Blades of Glory has the humor, palatable story and star power to make it worth the four month wait.
