I just went to Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Freeport Zone in Zambales last weekend and it was my first time there. While there are a lot of interesting things to do there, like going on a safari, doing watersports and shopping, there's one very point I want to share to those planning to go there: FOLLOW THE ROAD SIGNS.I had to learn that the hard way.
My fiancée and I were looking for a nice place to eat near the Bay Boardwalk and a traffic cop hailed us. I pulled over and asked the officer what my traffic violation was. He said that I did not stop at the "STOP" markings on the road. I emphatically told him that I slowed down and there were no vehicles in sight! He replied that I should have "stopped and paused for 1-2 seconds, even if there were no vehicles." I just threw my hands in resignation and got my traffic ticket. For my infraction, I paid the fine of 200 Pesos at a Subic treasury office.
Like I said, it was my first time driving to Subic and I have to say the traffic officers treat the road markings like holy scripture. I hope first time drivers to Subic will be warned.
